Storing dildos: How to properly store your platinum silicone toy
Platinum silicone lasts for decades. But only if stored correctly.
Incorrect storage doesn't damage the material immediately – it damages it slowly. Surface changes, sticky spots, discoloration: These are not signs of poor quality. These are signs of incorrect storage. This guide explains what you need to do – and what you should avoid.
The three biggest enemies of platinum silicone
✗ Direct sunlight and UV radiation
UV radiation degrades silicone over time – the surface becomes brittle and loses its elasticity. This doesn't happen after a day in the sun, but after weeks or months. Never store toys on windowsills or in direct sunlight.
✗ Contact with other silicone toys
This is the most common mistake. When two silicone toys are in direct contact, a chemical reaction can occur between the materials – especially if one of the toys is made of inferior silicone blend. The result: sticky surfaces that can no longer be removed. Store each toy separately.
✗ Dust and open storage
Platinum silicone has a slightly adhesive surface – dust, hair, and particles will stick to it. Toys stored openly must be cleaned again before each use. Toys stored in packaging are immediately ready for use.
Correct storage: What works
✓ Cotton bag – recommended
Breathable, dust-proof, no contact with other materials. Cotton does not react with platinum silicone. Many SilikonLust toys come with a cotton bag – this is not just packaging material, it's the recommended storage solution.
✓ Original packaging
If the original packaging is available: ideal. It is designed for the toy and protects against pressure, dust, and light.
✓ Separate storage box
One box per toy – or a box with separate compartments, so toys don't touch each other. Dark, dry, cool.
∼ Plastic bags – conditionally suitable
No air exchange – moisture can accumulate. If no other option is available: completely dry the toy, then place it in a plastic bag. Not a permanent solution.
✗ Shared drawer without packaging
Toys touch each other, dust accumulates, material reactions possible. Not recommended.
Storage conditions
- Temperature: Room temperature (15–25°C). No refrigerator for long-term storage – moisture in the refrigerator can cause problems. Refrigerator only for short cooling before use.
- Light: Dark or dimmed. No direct sunlight, no UV.
- Humidity: Dry. Completely dry the toy before packaging – moisture in the bag promotes bacterial growth.
- Pressure: Do not store under heavy objects. Platinum silicone returns to its shape, but prolonged pressure can leave marks on very soft toys (Shore 5–10A).
Storage after anal use: Special considerations
After anal use: sterilize first, then store. Not the other way around. A toy stored uncleaned after anal use will contaminate the packaging – and must be sterilized again before the next use.
For squirting toys: Leave the reservoir open after cleaning until it is completely dry. Then package. A moist reservoir in a sealed bag is an ideal environment for bacterial growth.

Cotton bag or plastic bag?
Cotton bag. Breathable, no moisture buildup, no contact with plasticizers. Plastic bags are an emergency solution – harmless for short-term use with a completely dried toy, but not suitable for long-term storage.
Do I need to dry the toy before storing it?
Yes – completely. Moisture in the packaging promotes bacterial growth. After cleaning: let air dry or wipe with a clean cloth. Only package the toy when it is completely dry.
