Heating up your dildo: Why temperature changes the experience – and how to do it right
Share
A cold toy (room temperature, approx. 20°C) and a warmed toy (38°C) not only feel different – they create a different experience.
The brain processes body warmth as familiarity. A toy at body temperature activates fewer “foreign object signals” – the calibration phase is shorter, and the experience begins faster. This is especially relevant the first time, but it's also a noticeable difference for experienced users.
How to properly warm up a toy
✓ Method 1: Warm Water – recommended
Place the toy in warm water (38–42°C) for 3–5 minutes. Not hot – water over 50°C is safe for platinum silicone, but too hot for skin. After warming, dry completely, then apply lubricant.
Advantage: Even heating, controllable temperature, fast.
Suitable for: All platinum silicone toys, with and without suction cups.
✓ Method 2: Body Heat
Hold the toy in your hands for 2–3 minutes or place it between your thighs and body. Slower than warm water, but possible anywhere – no preparation needed.
Advantage: No tools needed, no risk of overheating.
Disadvantage: Only warms the surface, not the inside of the toy.
✓ Method 3: Warm Towel
Wrap the toy in a towel soaked in warm water and let it sit for 2–3 minutes. Faster than body heat, more even than direct holding.
Suitable for: When a sink is not nearby.

What you should not do
✗ Microwave
Heats unevenly – the inside of the toy can become significantly hotter than the surface. Risk of burns. Do not use.
✗ Hot Water (60°C+)
Platinum silicone can withstand temperatures up to 200°C – the material will not be damaged. But a toy that has been in 80°C hot water is too hot for the skin. Always check the temperature before using the toy.
✗ Radiator / direct heat source
Uncontrollable temperature, uneven heating. Do not use.
✗ Oven
Not necessary and not controllable for this purpose. Boiling (100°C) is suitable for sterilization – not for warming before use.
Cooling: When and how
Some users prefer a cooled toy – the cold stimulus creates a different, more intense experience than room temperature. This is not an exception, but a legitimate form of use.
- Method: Store the toy in the refrigerator (not freezer) for 20–30 minutes. Target temperature: 15–18°C.
- Not below 10°C: Very cold toys can irritate mucous membranes. Refrigerator temperature (4–8°C) is too cold for direct use – let it acclimate at room temperature briefly.
- Freezer: do not use. Platinum silicone is not damaged, but a frozen toy is dangerous for the skin.
- After cooling: Apply lubricant – cold does not increase friction, but lubricant remains mandatory.
Platinum Silicone and Temperature: What you need to know
Platinum silicone has two relevant thermal properties:
- Quickly absorbs temperature: A platinum silicone toy reaches water temperature in 3–5 minutes. TPE takes longer and heats less evenly.
- Retains temperature longer: After warming, a platinum silicone toy stays warm for 10–15 minutes – longer than TPE, which returns to room temperature faster.
- No material change due to temperature: Platinum silicone does not change its properties due to heating or cooling. Texture, elasticity, and surface remain identical – at 15°C as well as at 42°C.
- Safe up to 200°C: This is why platinum silicone can be boiled. This is not relevant for warming before use – but it shows that temperature cannot harm the material.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the warmth last?
For platinum silicone: 10–15 minutes after warming in warm water. The toy slowly cools to room temperature. For longer use: briefly reheat or hold with body heat.
Can I use the toy directly in warm water?
Yes – platinum silicone is completely waterproof. Shower or bathtub are possible places of use. Important: apply lubricant before getting into the water – water dilutes lubricant, it does not replace it.
Is cooling safe?
Yes – at refrigerator temperature (15–18°C after brief acclimatization). Not below 10°C. Freezer: do not use. Platinum silicone is not damaged by cold, but very cold toys can irritate mucous membranes.
Why does a warm toy feel better?
The brain processes body warmth as familiarity. A toy at body temperature activates fewer foreign body signals – the calibration phase is shorter, and the experience begins faster. This is a noticeable difference, especially the first time.
